I adore my 24...my new year 2024!
24 rhymes with 64. Well, not really, but we can pretend at least..right?
The Commodore 64 is an 8-bit home computer that was introduced in January 1982 (wow, almost half a century ago!) by Commodore International. It was designed to be an affordable computer for the masses and was priced at $595 (equivalent to $1,800 in 2022). The Commodore 64 was powered by a MOS Technology 6510/8500 CPU and had 64 KB of RAM. It was known for its superior graphics and audio capabilities, thanks to its custom chips for waveform generation and multicolor sprites. It was also popular for its ability to run a wide range of software, including games, productivity software, and programming languages.
The Commodore 64 was a commercial success and has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time, with independent estimates placing the number sold between 12.5 and 17 million units. It dominated the low-end computer market for most of the later years of the 1980s, outselling IBM PC compatibles, Apple computers, and the Atari 8-bit family of computers. The Commodore 64 was also known for its versatility and was used in various fields such as music production, graphic design, and education...you know the game well.
Oh yeah, and:
ReplyDeleteYou can get a Commodore 64 for a couple of hundred dollars on eBay.
You can get one for a lot less, but it comes with a retro " cigar smell".
