Four Individuals.
Two Tragedies.
*One Thing in Common.
What was it?
Yesterday morning, Stinky waved ’Adieu!’ a flush upon his cheeks; he was going places! Stinky had waited, how long? He had no idea. He was just watching humans come in and go out. He had no place to be, nothing to really do. So he flew to a florescent light bulb to warm up. No one was there when he spiraled toward his rapidly approaching reflection below a white oval donut. Oh oh.
About a year ago, Dan, was rescued by two lone fishermen who saw his last feeble attempts of drawing attention to himself. After five hours, Dan was too weak and cold to wave a wet white ‘flag’ any longer; he knew he was a goner. No one saw Dan being drawn out to sea by the rip tide. Dan was intimate with the ebb and flow of ocean waves; as usual there had been no crowds around. Dan, of Long Island, NY, awoke early and had gone down to the beach for a swim.
Seven years ago, Brett’s guardian angel, amid a fleet of volunteer searchers, found Brett an hour later, just in the nick of time. After 28 hours, Brett had given up all hope. His friends had come back looking for him and although coming ridiculously close, didn’t see him. No one saw Brett fall overboard that night. Puking over the rail as others aboardship had done, Brett tried to remedy his upset stomach. Brett and his surfing buddies all got food poisoning one evening aboard a charter boat on the Indian Ocean.
Nearly a half century ago as its gray limp body repeatedly swept past pushed 'round by the agitator paddle, Old Tom was found by a bulkmilk truck driver. Tom may have lasted an hour had the agitator been still. No one was awake to see Tom leap onto the lid of a 400 gallon tank of fresh milk with one of its ten-inch diameter sample lids missing. Not even the rooster was awake when Tom saw the milkhouse door was open. Tom, from Nevada, Iowa, sauntered toward the barn after the morning milking for a drink.
*They had all treaded water as if their lives depended on it.
Stinky may have laid an egg before her end and so her line would continue.
ReplyDeleteTom disobeyed the 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not drink before the sun passeth over the windmill.
