Wannaskan Almanac for April 28, 2020 Swing Low Sweet Parodies

It is the 119th day of 2020.  We are in week 17 of 2020.  It may feel like we are in the 1000th week of 2020.  We will make it.  It'll be all right.

We are now 40 days into spring.
In only 54 days it will be summer.
If winter is your thing,
You probably find that a bummer.

Your birthstone for this day is diamond or crystal.  This means your are probably either 25 or 50.  Or 75 if you go for both.

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work.  This day is not to be confused with the other 364 days (365 in this leap year) per year where we are to avoid being safe and healthy at work.  Let me highlight a few of those special days for you.

April 29 (a whole day away from World Day for Safety and Health at Work) is stand on a chair at work to change a light bulb day.

April 31 is confuse your coworker with an invalid calendar day.  This can also be done while standing on a chair.

June 17 is mix random chemicals found in a poorly locked closet day.  This is best celebrated in a poorly ventilated area.

July 19 is clean your electrical outlets with a fork day.  You will be shocked at how dirty those get!

December 10 is trip and fall day.  A good idea is to leave things randomly sprinkled on the floor the day before in order to get more friends involved in the celebration!
Steve and Joe get ready for Trip and Fall Day

Interestingly enough, today is also Workers Memorial Day in the United Kingdom.  I guess that is to pay homage to those workers who went too far celebrating the above holidays!

On this day in history, way back in 1192, the assassination of Conrad of Montferrat (Conrad I), King of Jerusalem, in Tyre occurred.  It was only two days after his title to the throne was confirmed by election. The killing was carried out by Hashshashin.  Hashshashin's full name was Hashshashin the Assassin.  I guess his parents are really to blame for his actions.

It was also on this day in 1789 when Christian Fletcher led the mutiny against William Bligh.  This is what the story, The Mutiny on the Bounty, was based on.  As Don McLean later wrote:
Bligh, Bligh from the Bounty goodbye
Mr. Fletcher was director of the mutiny guys
The men had gotten used to drinking whiskey and rye
So they put you in a longboat to die
Oh why'd you have to survive that try

Well, that is all the parodies I can do for today.  Stay healthy and safe Wannaskan Almanac readers!

  1. Who’s storage area is that? At first I thought it was Jerry’s. Does it belong to Mr. Hot Coco? Steve has a shed-from-hell in which I have tripped, but there’s no room to fall. I will be staying out of my own storage area on the next Trip and Fall Day. Thanks for the heads up.
