1305 French-Flemish peace treaty signed at Athis-sur-Orge. The French entourage showed up with a box of condoms after mis-translating as "at this sure orgy". Their faces were indeed sacred blue.
1713 The French residents of Acadia are given one year to declare allegiance to Britain or leave Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotians were outraged at the possiblity of having to live without French Toast.

1931 American pilot Wiley Post and Australian navigator Harold Gatty take off from Roosevelt Field, NY, to attempt to set a new record circumnavigating the Earth - successfully complete in 8 days, 15 hrs, 51 mins...which would have been doubled if they'd had TSA agents to deal with.
1942 World War II: Germany's latest fighter, a Focke-Wulf FW190 is captured intact when it mistakenly lands at RAF Pembrey in Wales. The confused German pilot was quoted as saying "Vas Der Focke?"
1959 Convicted Manhattan Project spy Klaus Fuchs is released after only nine years in prison and allowed to emigrate to Dresden, East Germany, where he resumed a scientific career. Officials said they were glad to send Fuchs off.
