It is May 4, 2021.
"May the force be with you. " It is one of the most famous movie quotes ever. Most people think that it was first uttered by Obi-Wan in an address to Luke Skywalker. Most people are wrong though. The first character to say this was General Dodonna before the Death Star battle in "A New Hope." The second person to say it, just moments later, was Han Solo. It is possible that Chewie did say it before that, but you would have to be able to speak Wookie to know for sure.
What are some other things that people are usually wrong about? Let me give you a tough one. What is the name of that big clock tower in London? If you said "Big Ben", you are wrong. Big Ben is actually the name of the big bell inside the tower. The actual name of the tower is the Elizabeth Tower. I know that I often mislead you on the facts, so I won't be offended if you look that up now. If you feel like sending a picture of your stunned face when you realize that I wasn't being sarcastic that would be fine.
What are some other common things that people think they know? Here are a few:
1. The Great Wall of China is the only man made object visible from space. Actually there are many man made items including dams and highways that are more easily visible from space than the Great Wall.
2. You get a rush of energy after ingesting sugar. Actually this sugar rush has been determined to be completely false. Still, I will eat a Twix whenever I feel drained. Or a Snickers.
3. Red makes bulls go crazy. Actually, bulls are colorblind. The only reason they charge the red cape is because it is waving.
4. Your left brain controls creativity and your right brain controls logic. Actually, the biggest difference between your brain's hemispheres is that they control muscles on opposite sides of your body. When it comes to more abstract concepts such as creativity and language they are both responsible in relatively equal measure.
5. Different parts of your tongue sense different tastes. Actually all parts of your tongue taste everything.
In the sitcom "The Office", one of the characters is always saying the word "actually". He does it every time someone says something that he deems to be incorrect. Everyone rolls their eyes when he does it. I figure it is because people dislike being told they are wrong much more than they dislike actually being wrong.
Use that information wisely. Look for someone you want to annoy and wait for them to say something that they think is profound, and then...when they think they have totally impressed everyone with their wisdom you can say...actually...
Actually most of us don't use just 10% of our brains. We use the whole thing, but only use it wisely 10% of the time. Most of us.
