Wannaskan Almanac for February 10, 2026 I Hear You!

I was reading through an article on MSN the other day (I know...first mistake!) and decided to leave a comment, or more precisely, respond to a comment.  The original poster was on one side of an issue, and ended by saying that doing "X" wasn't smart.  My response was that not doing "X" wasn't smart.  MSN decided that my comment was harassment and said that my comment had been removed for that reason.  I found that quite amusing.  So I posted another comment.  In this one I said that I agreed with everything in the article.  That was all I said.  It was rejected for harassment again.  This tickled me to no end!

I am aware that it AI that decides whether a comment is in violation of their community standards.  And I am also aware that MSN doesn't really like to receive comments that lean to the right a little.  Not sure what the huge problem with the above comment was though.  Maybe being too agreeable?  Who can say!

It does bring up a bigger issue though.  I am conservative.  I have many friends who are liberal.  They aren't wrong.  They aren't idiots...I mean they are easily as smart (or in Joe's case smarter) than I am.  But what we are missing anymore is the maturity to listen to ideas we disagree with...and I mean really listen.  Listen for the heart of people, not just their words.  Listen to the reasons of why they believe what they believe.  Listen because you respect them.  Listen not to figure out how to tear down their words but instead listen so you can reflect on their words.

In a world gone mad it is the beer with a person who had different ideas that leads to a little civility.  This is something that modern "protestors" seem to forget.  Whetherr you are right or left, it is your right to peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.  Where we go wrong in modern times is to assemble a mob to disrupt the lives of the people.  That isn't what the constitution points to.  It implores us to get together with people who recognize an issue and address the government.  That is how change is supposed to happen.  Neither the minds of the government or the people should be won over by violent mobs tearing up things. We should be rationally discussing things and listening to each other.

That is my 2 cents.  Let me leave you with a Cocoism.  An argument without substance is like the sound of a steak cooking...gets you all wound up but doesn't feed you without meat.

  1. "In a world gone mad it is the beer with a person who had different ideas ..." I think you may have accidentally blamed 'beer' accompanying a person, rather than a person accompanying a beer for our current state of affairs, although it is common knowledge that beer drinkers don't always discuss things rationally nor listen to each other, I believe beer has nothing to do with our current state of affairs for if there's one thing our current state hasn't been affiliated with or obviously affected by, publicly, it's beer. "Look at the beer he's drinking! No wonder he acts irrationally." "Well, you know his whole family is invested heavily in that brewer." "That, explains her definite lack of decorative sense." And so on. Nope, don't blame beer.
