Teddy Roosevelt Trip Pictures!

Hello and Welcome to a (brief) lovely post about our current and upcoming adventures! This weekend for MEA, we decided to switch it up a bit, and instead of going to the North Shore, we went west, and headed for Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota! We left Wednesday evening, headed for Minot, where we spent the night. Thursday morning, we headed for the Park, got our tent set up, and went on a tiny Nature hike called the Little Mo Nature Hike, that introduced us to what we were going to be doing the next day. We learned about the wildlife, the plants, and how the nature around us was formed.

Friday, we hiked the Buckhorn Trail. 11.4 miles of pure Wilderness. A long hike, but its mostly easy terrain, and has PLENTY of good views. We had a ton of fun hiking it, and we saw plenty of wildlife including deer, rabbits, birds, prairie dogs, and of course, plenty of bison! It was super cool seeing all this wildlife up close, and it felt completely different seeing these animals in their natural habitat, compared to seeing these sorts of animals in a zoo, or somewhere else.

The Buckhorn Trail! 11.4 miles of nature, scenery, and tons of wildlife!
A group of bison were in our path, then escaped their new danger for a high cliff!

A bison at the entrance of the park!

Watch out! Don't get pricked by these Prickly Pear Cactuses, found all over the park!

Anyway, my time describing our hike is coming short (my mom is finishing her grocery shopping) so I'll leave you all with a both brief post and a cliff cliffhanger to keep you all excited for next week. Hope you all enjoy the pictures, and I hope you all have an amazing week!

  1. Thanks David. That area made a man of Teddy Roosevelt. Custer also passed through on his last trip west.

  2. If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be) it was here by a campfire, also among the ghosts of other historical figures including those of some of the Lakota Nation and other Indigenous tribes that vied for the same lands, that Chairman Joe saw the license plates on my car, a then- recent 'gift' from, sadly, another unsuccessful marital experiment, had expired two years earlier...

  3. These days we've been watching Ken Burns' documentary of Buffalos which airs on PBS these days. Very heartening to see your photos and know of your first hand admiration of these magnificant creatures.
