Mothers: A Kid's Perspective

Hello and welcome to a Mother's Day Saturday here at the Wannaskan Alamanac. Today is May 7th.

Last year, I blogged about being a terrible Plant Whisperer. This year, when the First Grader brought his Mother's Day plant from school, he announced, "I'm taking care of it." On that note, today, we'll visit some greenhouses as I renew my annual promise to "be better this year."

As a Mother's Day present to me, the First Grader and Fourth Grader helped me write this blog post. Enjoy!

What are your favorite qualities in a mother?

1G: They're kind of like your servants. Making you food, making you shelter...

4G: Goodness.

What do you like doing with your mother?

1G: Teaching mom how to play Minecraft. (You don't even know how to play, that's the funny part.)

4: Watching movies, eating, playing.

What do moms ask kids to do?

1G:  Homework.

4G: Do the dishes, clean their room, clean the kitchen, clean the litter box...

Why are moms important?

1G: They give you food, shelter, and water and fun stuff. They even sometimes get what you want for your birthday.

4G: Because we came out of them.

What's something your mother does that you don't like?

1G: Making food that we don't like, like the salmon you made. (Mom note: Moroccan Salmon. It's delicious.)

4G: Homework. Eating gross food like fish.

What are the qualities of a good mother?

1G: Letting your children do whatever they want.

4G: Having a calmer voice; saying the magic word all the time.

What are your favorite memories with your mom?

1G: Playing board games with her like Candyland 2.0 and Chutes & Ladders.

4G: Going to Zippel Bay State Park.

What are foods you wished mom cooked all the time?

1G: Pancakes with whipped cream.

4G: My favorite potatoes. (i.e. fried potatoes)

What do you wish your mom would do more?

1G: Make some dinner that we like.

4G: Buy us a phone.

What do you like about your mom?

1G: She's kind and treats us well. (Sort of.)

4G: That she has a business and she's in charge of that company.

If you could make your mom do anything, what would you ask her to do?

1G: Buy me an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Buy me all the electronics in the world!

4G: Let me go to Minneapolis and live with Aunt Paula in her apartment.

What's the job of a mom?

1G: Taking care of you.

4G: All the cleaning jobs in the house.

What's something about your mom that no one knows?

1G: That's something that I can't answer.

4G: She calls us "Fartners in Crime."

What's some good advice you have for moms?

1G: Make deals with kids, like, "I do something and you do something."

4G: When your kids are mad, leave them alone a little bit to cool off.
