We are rapidly approaching the end of Air Conditioning Appreciation Days. This annual observance takes place from July 3 to August 15. Air conditioning was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. Before that time Wannaska citizens would spend the entire months of July and August in Hayes Lake. They would stand in the water with only their lips exposed...because back then people needed air to live. Unfortunately the mosquitoes and black flies caused a lot of lip injuries, which interfered with the Wannaskan's desires to kiss (French kiss during Bastille Day celebrations). That all changed when Carrier introduced air conditioning. Now Wannaska residents can stay cool in their shedaux's (spelling) while smooching up a storm!
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Minnesota was 114 degrees. This was on July 6, 1936, in Moorhead. The hottest temperature ever recorded in the United States was 134 degrees. This happened in Death Valley on July 10, 1913. It is also the World Record for hottest recorded temperature.

The hottest recorded temperature in the World over the past decade was 128.5 degrees in Sulaibya, Kuwait. This happened on July 31, 2012.
The hottest day on record for Wannaska was 127 degrees. This occurred on February 14, 2005. Apparently several Wannaskans were preparing for Bastille day and, well, you know the rest!
The following holidays are observed on August 11:
Annual Medical Checkup Day (glad I read that first word twice!)
Ingersoll Day (a great way to recover from Outgersoll Day)
National Hip Hop Day (That's a Rap!)
National Raspberry Bombe Day (Too many raspberries and you will leave a bomb!)
National Raspberry Tart Day (To celebrate the Scottish raspberry clan and their raspberry tartan)
Play in the Sand Day (Sand day, Man day, tan day...that made me week)
Son and Daughter Day (or as it is known in Kentucky, valentine's day)
Well, I guess I mocked everyone and everything so my work is done. See you all next week.
