Man Avoids Bicyclist
Joe McDonnell, 79 and residing in Palmville Township, Minnesota, recently avoided running into a man on an electric bike. "These electric bikes seem dangerous to me," McDonnell tells the press. "They give the driver a false sense of security. Recently I was turning from a busy street onto a quiet side street when a middle aged man in a red jumpsuit riding a motorized bike came driving toward me on the sidewalk. I slowed to let him go in front of me but he turned to go behind me so I kept going, then he turned suddenly to go in front so I slowed to let him by. As we got closer, he kept turning his front wheel back and forth indecisively. Then at the last second, he zipped behind me and disappeared." In a later communication, McDonnell reports that his passenger, as soon as the danger had passed, said, "With that jumpsuit, he looked like an escapee from the jail." McDonnell says that his friend's comment reminded him how people always tend to make jokes to relieve tension after a stressful situation. "I myself speculated that the guy had stolen the warden's bike," McDonnell adds.
Man Witnesses Meltdown
Joe McDonnell, 79 and an amateur ethnologist, recently attended an ethnic festival in town. "This festival happens once a year with traditional food and dancing in native dress," McDonnell tells reporters. "I lived for a year in the country where the festival participants come from so I always make a point to attend the festival. There was a good crowd in the auditorium watching the dancing. I was sitting in the back near the food table when I heard a loud crash beside me. Next to me I saw a small boy in native clothes and a straw hat wearing the scowl of a meltdown in progress. I'm not sure what precipitated his meltdown or what he had thrown on the floor, but judging by the noise it must have been big. When I lived overseas I leaned that parents used disapproval of children's misbehavior rather than physical punishment, which seemed to be in effect during the current meltdown." In a follow-up email, McDonnell says that this method seemed to him to be a good way to discipline children and he and his wife applied to their own children. "We were not always consistent," he says, "but the kids turned out ok nevertheless."

The Bible may be an excellent book, but it’s just a traveler’s guide- You can’t know what a place is really like until you go there.
If in your travels you only want to see new places, then you must fall in love with the whole world.
I can’t picture myself as a good Samaritan. I see myself more as the man who fell victim to robbers.
We like having a flawed leader. When St Peter asks us about our sins we can point to our leader’s bloody hands and claim we were just following orders.
I don’t do much during the week.
At least on Sundays I don’t feel guilty about it.
I grieve the end of Summer
I hate to see Fall go
Winter's end I celebrate
And Spring-
I just don't know
"A thousand years are but a day in thy sight or as a watch in the night," says the psalmist. "Same for a billion," says the scientist.
