Hello and welcome to a 10 out of 10 Saturday here at the Wannaskan Almanac. Today is October 10th.

A friend shared an Instagram post with me about the significance of today being a 10-10-10 day. Let's start with the math. The first two numbers are easy enough to figure out: 10 (October) - 10 (day). The third part is 2+0+2+6 = 10. Hence 10-10-10. According to the video, the stars and planets are aligning in a special way that suggests a cosmic invitation for new beginnings. To let go of old habits, identities, patterns, and begin something refreshingly healthy, positive, and life-affirming.

It's also World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to global reflection "on raising awareness, breaking stigmas, and encouraging people to check in on their emotional well-being."

The "10/10" metaphor is something new I learned about. It's a memory trick to remember that even if you don't feel like a 10 doesn't mean you're not a 10. Even Mother Teresa didn't feel like a 10 some days, yet she was a 10 out of 10 as a human being, and her contribution to the world was a 10/10.

10 - 10 - 10 makes me think of casino slot machines cha-ching - cha-ching - cha-ching! Winner, winner!

It also makes me think of gymnastics competition scores - 10 - 10 - 10 - a 99.9999% impossible score, unless you're Romanian gymnast Ecaterina Szabó - a good reminder that perfection is very rarely an attainable goal, so maybe we should shift our efforts to something else we have more control over, like kindness, generosity, compassion. Being the best person we can be in the time we have for both ourselves and others.

The Catholic church doesn't get behind the numerical significance of today. (Note: I'm a Catholic, hence the curiosity.) However, they do get behind employing faith to be good humans and are super into revering people who made it their life mission to be Christ-like. Today's 10/10 saints include: St. Francis Borgia, St.Thomas of Villanova, St. Paulinus of York, St. Daniel Comboni, Sts. Daniel & Samuel, among others.
