Hello and welcome to a hazy Saturday here at the Wannaskan Almanac. Today is May 3rd.
May is upon us! 'Tis the season for field trips as school winds down and wraps up. The Fourth Grader recounts his visit this past week to Warroad RiverPlace.
It wasn't really a field trip; it was kind of just a walk to the RiverPlace and a short tour.
What's the difference between a field trip and a walk + short tour?
The difference between a walk and a field trip is that a field trip is farther, at least twenty minutes or a few hours to travel. Then you have the trip for a few hours. The last field trip we took was to the Bemidji Science Center where I bought a powder that makes fire turn colorful.
Got it. Okay, so what is the RiverPlace?
The RiverPlace is like a building in Warroad. It's the newest building - or one of the newest buildings in Warroad. It was pretty. It had art.
What's the job of the RiverPlace?
It doesn't really have a job. It just hosts things, like dances, recitals, just people doing stuff that interests other people.
What is this "stuff that interests other people"?
Maybe plays. Um..movies. Bands might go there. Paintings. Activities. Random pieces of art.
Okay. What else did you see?
There's a big TV in the auditorium. It's by 20 x 30 feet and there are 1-foot panels. How many panels are there in it? Six hundred!
What did you like about RiverPlace?
Probably the big auditorium place. There was also one painting that caught my eye by Shawna Grapentine. It was blue with a bunch of different colors. There was a tree and a rock by an ocean in the painting. I liked it because it had different shades of blue.
There was another piece of art that I liked. It was made by an artist whose studio is in Brazil. It was pieces of driftwood glued together to make a plate. A fun fact: he found the pieces of driftwood on Lake of the Woods.
We went backstage, behind the big TV, and that was kind of cool. There were rooms where people who are about to do stuff put makeup on. There was an electrical room where we saw cables, plug-ins, and cords. There's a TV in one of the backrooms.
How big was that TV?
About the size of a Roku. Maybe 3/4ths the size of a Roku.
Anything else about RiverPlace?
We had to walk there. We didn't go by bus.
How was the walk?
It was fine. We saw a bunch of gooses.
Did you see anything else?
We saw a guy named John. He gave us our tour.
Would you visit RiverPlace again?
Yes. The place looks nice.

Painting by Shawna Grapentine |
I'm glad you posted the painting. It looks like the artist ran a comb through blobs of paint! I might just try that! Next time I hope you post a photo of the powder that makes fire colorful. It's always good to read your writing, even if its an interview. I love interviews.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting!
