February 13, 2018

Good Morning and welcome to the Almanac for Tuesday, February 13, 2018.
Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies. – By Aristotle
Love acknowledged only once a year will fade faster than a rose in Roundup herbicide.—Anonymous (for obvious reasons)
Well, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. This day has been celebrated for more than 1500 years. It began in 496 AD. Pope Gelasius renamed a Roman festival, Lupercalia, to a Christian feast day and observed it a day earlier, on February 14. He set February 14 to be a feast day in honor of Saint Valentine. It is this St. Valentine whom the modern Valentine's Day is named after.
Due to the proclamation of Gelasius, every year on February 13th hundreds of thousands of procrastinating spouses populate malls, drug stores, and curio shops looking for that perfect gift which will express how they really feel about their significant other. A little tip for you is that roses will last a week, a diamond will last until you lose it while white water rafting, but every day love shared by listening, sharing, and caring for someone will never disappear.
Some important events that happened on February 13th include:
1545 Willem of Nassau becomes Prince of Orange (I believe he is descended from the Red and Yellow families)
1633 Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei arrived in Rome for trial before Inquisition for professing belief that earth revolves around the Sun
1777 Philosopher and writer Marquis de Sade arrested without charge, imprisoned in Vincennes fortress (this made him drop the e from his last name)
1861 Abraham Lincoln declared US President in Washington, D.C.
1912 England regains the Ashes (Possibly from a wood stove)
1981 Longest sentence published by "The New York Times" - 1286 words (I think the students in my sixth grade class have come close though...ah, those run-on sentences!)
A famous person born of February 13th in 1919 was Tennessee Ernie Ford. He was a country music singer and actor, most noted for his song 16 tons, which ironically is the amount of weight I feel I gained over the Holidays.
I will leave you with a romantic idea. Tomorrow take that love of your life for a nice walk. Talk to each other, listen to each other, and then watch the sunset together. This easily beats a 6 foot tall stuffed bear…unless it is cloudy. Then go for the bear.
Email me your comments at ffefreekshow@hotmail.com I love to read them, rearrange the words, and send them out to random people.

  1. That must be a picture of your school. I'll take Teresa out for a walk tomorrow. It's supposed to get up to 30 degrees.
