Wannaskan Almanac for Tuesday, August 30, 2022...Word

It is important to always use the correct word, and spelling, when sharing a story.  For example:

There is a big difference between guerilla warfare and gorilla warfare.

The best of both words

There is a big difference between being in a continent and being incontinent.

It is tough to be a bee on a b-team.

There is a big difference between being one and being won.

If you are told to grow a pair they don't mean grow a pear.

It is better when you are past gas as opposed to when you passed gas.

What kind of days leaves you in a daze?

What kind of here do you hear here?

Have you got a symbol for the cymbal?

These words are known as homophones.  They are words that sound the same but mean different things.  I guess you could say that politician's speeches are homophones too!  When it comes to politicians they say that the buck stops here.  Unfortunately, too often, the sense does too!

These are not to be confused with multiple meaning words, such as litter.  For example:

When I went out to pick up litter, a man giving away puppies gave me the pick of the litter.

Or, even worse, alliteration:

A little liter litter alit lightly on my lederhosen.

Ah words.  What would I write without them?

  1. So, you're saying that it's better when I'm passing gas than when I'm passing gas? Followup question: Does this apply to politician speeches, too? Or are those vices versal?
