The Sick Days (An Antonin Post)

Hello and welcome to a sick Saturday here at the Wannaskan Almanac. Today is December 7th.

Hello, people! Today, I'm going to talk about how I'm sick, AND I'm still sick today! This story is about harsh times at my mom's work because she couldn't bring me home, sleeping in the living room, and not going outside.

Day 1 - Thursday was the day I found out I was sick. I asked my teacher if I could go to the nurse's office because I wasn't feeling well. The nurse checked my temperature - 101 degrees. She said no school today and no school tomorrow. Although I was tired, and I was waiting for my mom to pick me up, I was thinking one thing: How long am I going to be sick? And that got answered with: I don't know.

My mom picked me up and she brought me to her work. I asked her, "Mom, why can't we go home?" and she said, "You have to stay because you can't be home alone and you can't go now because a guy is taking a test and I'm the supervisor." And I was like, "Aw, man." What am I going to do until she's done?

I decided to make a camera out of Legos. It looked really good in my opinion. So that passed the time. My mom also made me some tea which was really good. Even when the tea was sitting out for thirty minutes it was still really hot because it was in one of those heat-trapper mug things. And I burned my tongue! I read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for 40 minutes because that was my school homework. Then one of my friends from school came because her stepdad works with my mom. We played a little bit. There's a computer at my mom's work that we played on. We played a little Prodigy. We were going to program our Lego League robot but by the time our new laptop was ready to go, my friend had to go because her mom came to pick her up. An hour and a half after that - or maybe a half hour after that - we left ourselves.

When we finally got home, I put my pajamas on and we watched a movie called Surviving Christmas, which was really good in my opinion. After that, we went to sleep; me sleeping on the couch, my sister sleeping in her bed, and my mom sleeping downstairs. And that was Day 1 of being sick.

Day 2 - Awwww, Friday....I couldn't go to school. My mom checked my temperature in the morning. And it was 102.5. I was really cold, my bones were aching, so my mom gave me some medicine and then after about 20 minutes I perked up, but I stayed where I was on the couch. My mom had to leave at 10am, so with her permission, I played on her computer until she got back. Then she was home for another hour until she had to leave at 1pm for another meeting. While she was here I read, and after she left, I watched TV. My sister was at school. Being home was pretty chill. Our cat Scrawny kept me company because, later in the day, when I went to bed, Scrawny laid on the other side of the couch. But when I woke up, she wasn't there, so eh. When I didn't take my medicine, I kind of felt like I was aching and I was cold. But when I did take my medicine, I felt fine but with just a tiny pain.

Also on Friday, I ate an orange and some pancakes.

Day 3 - Awwww, Saturday...wonderful Saturday. First day of the weekend. Sleeping in. Having breakfast. Well, today was different. I woke up on the couch once again and I heard my mom's text message from all the way upstairs. So, I knew she was coming soon. After fifteen minutes, she came up. I watched a little bit of TV and this Smart Nonsense guy on YouTube. For example, this one guy didn't have any property, so he decided to own the moon (Dennis Hope). A woman died in 1951 but cured polio because one of her cells kept growing and growing so scientists could keep experimenting on how to cure sickness. (Henrietta Lacks). And the very first woman to earn two Nobel prizes (Marie Curie).

My mom checked my temperature today and it lowered to 102.1. I'm feeling fine, like nothing is bothering me right now because an hour ago I took a shower and took my medicine.

Overall, being sick is a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because you can skip school; a bad thing because you have to go through a lot of pain. Literally.
