June 12, 2018

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a bird in a plane? Nope, it is just the Wannaskan Almanac...your source for meaningless trivia and mind-boggling vocabulary. Today is June 12, 2018. I know that because I checked the calendar a few minutes ago. You can also find out the date by asking Siri, Alexa, Cortana, or any other number of digital assistants...unless you live off the wifi or data grid. If that is the case then just use a calendar.
Some people like the whole paper and pencil thing. Me, I put everything on computer. It seems like I can't remember anything unless a little ping from my iPad or iPhone reminds me about it. Without the iPhone and iPad iForget.

Your unusual word of the day is quark. Is it...
A) the sound a baritone duck makes
B) soft cheese made from skim milk
C) old English version of the word quart
D) a word made up to confuse Wannaskan Almanac readers

On this day in history:
1931 Al Capone is indicted on 5,000 counts of prohibition and perjury. A few more and he could have become a senator.
1665 New Amsterdam legally becomes an English colony and is renamed New York after English Duke of York. New Amsterdam was the main town in New Netherlands. It was established in 1624 on what is now the island of Manhattan. By 1655 the population of New Netherlands had reached about 2000 people, of which approximately 3/4 lived in New Amsterdam. America would have been a much different place if the Dutch had not given up New Netherlands due to the second Anglo-Dutch war. For example...Old Dutch potato chips might be called New Dutch potato chips.
1873 John William Strutt [Lord Raleigh] becomes President of the Royal Society. The Royal Society is often referred to as the father of modern science. The members are the most eminent scientists in Great Britain. Unfortunately I never learned the secret handshake so I have been denied membership.
1922 Babe Ruth is struck out 3 times in a row by Hub Pruett. Talking about Babe Ruth always makes me want to have a Baby Ruth. I will be back.
June 12 is Valentine's Day in Brazil. Why not surprise someone with a Brazilian Valentine's Day card? You can make it yourself. Use this quote: Tienes un lugar especial en nuestros que jamas se podra borrar. This means You Have a Special Place in our Love...or something like that. If you say it with a Spanish accent you will sound cool even if you don't know what it means.
Oh, by the way...did you notice that I played a little prank on you earlier. I switched the pictures of Al Capone and Babe Ruth. I just found it kind of ironic that they looked so similar. Kudos to you if you noticed it!
A quark is soft cheese made from skim milk. Next time you go to a restaurant, ask for a quarkburger. You will get one of three things...a surprised look, a surprise burger, or a soft cheese covered burger.
If you have a comment or question, you can email me at ffefreekshow@hotmail.com . Your email will not be read by either Al Capone or Babe Ruth. That just wouldn't be ethical. Or possible.

  1. This Babe post is Hall of Fame material, Capone, or no Capone.

  2. Since the answers to "quark" - A,B,and C - are quite nonsensible, I choose D because it is the only possible option in the world of reality. But confusion? Hardly. In the world of Wannaskans, someone always knows the answer. It's part of what makes us so special.

  3. I take exception to the four possible answers to the definition of the word 'quark,' even though I am six months and four days past its inquiry. I am retired and time seems of no consequence, however, I offer another realistic view of quark, as 'Quark', a word processing application for Mac and other computer OS, one that we used exclusively to publish THE RAVEN.
