May 22, 2018

Hi, and welcome to the Wannaskan Almanac for Tuesday, May 22, 2018. I thought I would start off the day with a new word for you. That word is nebulaphobia. I am sure that you have figured out that it is some sort of phobia, or fear, of something. See if you can figure that out before the end of this blog post.
Today is the 142nd day of the year. There are 223 days left of this year...which probably means I shall be revisiting the Shed-dau on the South Fork of the Roseau River in that number of days. Hopefully it is a little warmer there then it was last year!
May 22 is National Maritime Day. On this day people celebrate the benefits that the maritime industry provides to communities. There may be some sort of celebration planned on the banks of the Roseau River. Check with your local Maritime Day representatives. I believe Wannaska is still represented by Jerry Solom of Solom Machine, Sailboats, and Bread Baking Shop.
If the National Maritime Day celebration is too wild for you (and it looks like it is going to be a crazy one in Wannaska) then you might want to consider a more laid back acknowledgement of the following historical people's birthdays:
1622 Louis de Buade de Frontenac, Governor of New France
1722 Johannes Schmidlin, composer
1813 Richard Wagner, German composer
1844 Mary Cassatt, American Impressionist painter
1859 Arthur Conan Doyle, British author who wrote Sherlock Holmes.
Some big events occurred on this day. One of the most notable was in 334 BC when the Macedonian army of Alexander the Great defeated Darius III of Persia in the Battle of the Granicus. The world would have changed if Darius had won this battle.
Nebulaphobia is the fear of fog. If you are out driving on a deer filled Minnesota highway, you may have this particular fear every morning.
Thank you for reading. If you have a comment just email me at ffefreekshow@hotmail.com . I promise to read them with a clear mind...due to my constant nebulaphobia.
